PVC Vertical Blinds for High-Ceiling Homes: Smart Solutions for Brighter, Cooler Homes – Makati Project

High-ceiling homes are those built to at least nine feet tall and now becoming a go-to modern design for both residential and commercial architecture. This vertical space fundamentally creates a larger perception of a room, creating an immediate sense of space and openness. While the aesthetic advantages are clear, high-ceiling homes also introduce practical and operational challenges when it comes to installing designs or drapes. While this stands true for most, installation for high-ceiling windows and doors aren’t much of a challenge for us. Take our installation of vertical blinds for our Makati client as an example. In this article, we’ll venture into this project and explore how PVC vertical blinds are a smart solution for a brighter and cooler home in 2026.

Vertical blinds are composed of long, individual strips of material, known as slats or panels, which hang vertically from a track installed at the top of a window or door frame. Unlike the more traditional blinds which lift up and down, these blinds operate by sliding the panels side-to-side across the window and by tilting them to control light.

Typically, vertical blinds are composed of a headrail, vertical slats, and a wand or cord chain mechanism for adjusting the panels. The headrail houses the carriers that hold the slats and allows them to move laterally (side-to-side) and rotate (tilt). Meanwhile, the individual, vertical strips could be out of fabric, vinyl, aluminum, or wood and in our Makati installation, PVC. These are the main body of the blind. The wand or cord is used to draw the slats open by stacking them neatly to one side or close them completely across the window.

From these features, it can be inferred that vertical blinds are also the optimal choice when it comes to light control. By tilting the slats, one can easily fine-tune the amount of light entering the room, blocking direct glare while still allowing diffused light. As mentioned, the slats stack neatly to one side of the window when fully opened, providing a clear view and allowing easy access to sliding doors or large windows.

Expanding on its functions, these types of blinds are also the best choice for large windows and sliding doors. Their side-to-side operation and minimal stacking make them the optimal solution for covering wide expanses, patio doors, and sliding glass doors where other blinds would be too heavy or inappropriate. This function is exemplified in our Makati installation. Our client opted to have blinds installed for their large windows and doors which further enhanced the space, making it larger in size and more breathable and accommodating.

The vertical panels emphasized our client’s space and the immense height of the room. The long, continuous vertical lines draw the eye from floor to ceiling, accentuating not just the height but also the bright and cool space. The simple white or light gray color and the minimalist design helped ensure the large window coverings do not clutter the view or the space. When stacked to the side, they occupy minimal horizontal space, maintaining the clean lines of the contemporary interior.
